So this may sound like a stupid question, but i need to know. On the 83 xj 750 seca with anti dive forks what do u put in the forks. I assumed fork oil but then again the antive feeds brake fluid right into the bottom of the fork?? So whats going on here. And where exactly do u fill cuz the top of the leg looks sealed completely above the airvalve. :?:

You put fork oil in the forks.

The antidive units' brake fluid side is isolated from their fork oil side. Brake fluid activates them, then they act upon the forks. The brake fluid isn't pumped into the forks.

The top caps come off; you need a manual.

stevo, better to ask the question than take the risk, in that sense there's no such thing as a stupid question.

As Fitz says, you really need a manual if you're not experienced in working on bikes, it will earn it's price back the first time you use it 8)

Even if you ARE experienced, there are so many counter-intuitive quirks and details to the XJs it's easy to screw something up without a manual. I'm about as experienced as you can get, and I firmly believe in manuals and use them all the time.

I got one around here some where and a online manual which sucks. I was already in the midst of working on the bike when i asked the question. Lap tops are so useful. And the secas/xj's are jsut so freaking weird to many lil things they put into the bikes that seem almost unnecessary over engineered if you will.

Haha true, spent hours reading & researching on the carbs & STILL managed to advise ecologito to put the larger air jet as the main & smaller as pilot the other night.

What's the model code for 83 750 seca? can't think now but if it's RK, I have a factory parts book pdf if you need, they can be useful too

I have come across a question that i might as well ask. The lower fork leg has a lil metal spacer thing in it. Its tapered and roughly the diameter of bottle cap. It looks like it goes on eitherr way but i installed it withe tapered end facing the headlight or up on the forks. Is that right it looked right. But i would like to know beffore i go start the other fork.

With any luck that will show in the parts book (or you could remove the top of the other fork making sure to keep it oriented correctly & refer to that)

The washer which goes below the oil seal looks like it may provide some support for the center of the oil seal which rides on the chrome inner.

My most important observation is that the washer facilitates removal of the oil seal. Without the washer in place you will damage the oil seal trying to remove it. When you pull upwards sharply to remove inner from the lower, the bushings will collide with the center of the oil seal instead of the outside(if washer was in place).

There are two washers. One curved that goes below the seal, and one flat that goes above.
