fork seals/steering bearings

    got the bars off - doesn't look like I have to pull the gauges/headlight bucket to pull the forks and change the steering bearings. Am I right?

    You should be able to, only thing to think about is there enough slack to lift the upper tree off and that the "assembly" is not going to be too awkward to work with.

    Be careful, the bearings will go *everywhere*, and use a fcukton of grease to hold them in place for reassembly.
