Did an hour of polishing today, not perfect but looks far better then the aged and flaked clear coat.

Before I put them back together, questions.
I'm replacing the original springs with progressive springs, I feel like I still should keep the smaller separate springs thats fitted in the bottom of the legs, is that a correct thought ?

How much oil do you have in your forks (if you have made the transition to the progressive springs that is)?

Thanks and have a nice day!

    Nice polishing job!

I have the oil specs at home, I want to say 5" from the top of the tube, with forks compressed all of the way and the springs in.

15wt fork oil is the way to go over the oem 10wt

    Kjempe fint!

I tried that a few years ago on a different bike and first efforts didn't look promising. What did you use?

Is there a product to keep polished aluminum from pitting? I live by the salt water, which eats that shit alive.

As soon as you brought-up the salt, ... I said Clear Coats.

    Cleared. Buffed. Cleared. Buffed. etc.

I see, what do you use to clear? I cant imagine anythinng you spray will stick very well. Id love to do this to the supercharger on my stang.

    1. Label-off to get rid of most of the clear coat
    2. "Sanded" with a scotchbrite-like pad, to get rid of the last bits of clear coat
    3. Medium polish with a semi hard polishpad mounted to the drill
    4. Fine/gloss finish polish

And no, haven't found anything that will reduce the upkeep, so it's only to keep polishing it over time to keep the shine..

    All I use is Mother's.
    And, ... lots of sox.

But, ... Salt is the enemy.
Ask an AutoBody Shop guy to Clear them for a few bucks.
What's left in the gun after a job.

Re: Forklegs, now without yellowy clear coat

My brother found a Sonax "Rim sealer", thats made for polished rims so they get easier to clean, just to spray it on and wipe. Will give it a go this week and maybe they'll keep the gloss there for a longer period of time then unprotected.

    Anyway, My remaining question :

YES, the lower spring is for the damper rod and it need to be retained! Note that this short spring goes UNDER the head of the damper rod......
