I used this - was a bit worried about how it would do coverage wise on a bigger area but it turned out great I think.

It's amazing what you can do with a couple of bags of top soil...

Nice to see your setup with the fork boots because I will do exactly the same thing. Looks great imo. I also like the color of your handlebar grips.
Do you have a pic of the assembled bike?

Never mind, just looked through your photo bucket gallery.
What did you use that piece of round wood for that you put in between the tank mounts?

That's going to get chips on it, think about putting that clear tape like they put on cars , on the leading edge
I wish I had but too late now.

I used Caliper paint just for that reason Polock - not supposed to chip but your idea isn't bad.

I got a 550 tank from Fitz a white ago and to make that fit the XJ650 it needed to be widened in the channel by about 1/4 or an inch. I used that dowel cut to the width of the XJ650 tank and hammered it up and down the channel with a rubber mallet until it was wide enough. Tank is still a work in progress, needs acid wash and fuel gauge blocking off but I just wanted to see if i could make it work first. also the rear mount is about 1/2 inch too long so I need to fab something to make that work which played into how the seat was going to work too so that whole thing got shelved for a bit. Will go back to it soon I'm sure. :)

I'm hoping to get it back on the road tonight so will post pictures of the whole thing tmw.

That tape you speak of is also used by dirt bikers before upside down forks
Check with custom decal makers they use it

well, at least you thought about it first to make sure it has the right width.
i just used a regular hammer and started hitting it until it fit.
next time i will take a different approach - maybe :)

MSTSM... that sounds catchy and rolls off the tongue. Palindrome? That's just a bonus!
    Madam, I'm Adam.
edit: Shit. I missed "Mutt". And I was all excited about the wordplay.
