I just sold my bike to a freind at work. I would like to thank each and every one of you for all your help over the past 3 years. The posts in here are invaluable to any XJ owner, and the members are as kind as any forum I use. I'll get another bike in the future, but for now it was time to move on. I've got two young twin daughters and after hitting 2 deer around here in the last 12 months in my truck (luckily) I felt it was time to pause a bit at least until they're older.

Since I work with the guy I'll probably be posting occasionally to help him out since I don't think he's the PC type, lol.

Take care all of you! 8)

Close calls make you think twice! I imagine a lot of us will still be posting when you get another XJ...

I respect and applaud you for your decision to take a motorcycle hiatus while your kids are young. I took a 20 year leave for the same reason with the exception of a year or so when I found the Virago.

We'll be lookin' for ya when you come back!

This is such a personal decision. I too applaud your desicion. You placed the thoughts and concerns of your family infront of your own wants.

With a wife and family it is not about me... I know for me it is one made with a full disclosure to the wife and son. As many know I lost my brother to a motorcycle accident about 7 months ago to a distracted driver. So, it was with much talk and prayer, "we" as a family came to the decision to continue to ride. With that said, one word from my wife or child and I will be off the road in the blink of an eye!

I might not stop riding, perhaps take to the woods and the track instead. Notice I said "might not". Whatever it takes to make my family feel safe and to not live in fear. If hanging up the gear makes them sleep well, then hang it up I will.

I wish you the best and I look forward to waving on the low as we pass someday...

Thank you all for the kind words. I have no doubt I'll be back on a bike in coming years, perhaps sooner than later, I just felt it was a good time to take a breather and thought I'd sell my bike rather than let it sit up (also my crazy wife just brought home a just-out-of-warranty BMW 530i and if you've ever priced parts you'll find you better dang well do LOTS of PM's on it!).

Dave I applaud your decision as well, there is risk in getting out of bed and we can't live in fear. I would have loved to have met Bill in person, he seemed like such a kind person.

Personally, my biggest problem (although I consider myself a cautious driver) was that I like to twist the wrist a good bit more than I should, and on the crooked deer-infested roads I drive and several close calls with the MC and animals, I decided my family's best interest was for me to hop off for a bit.

God Speed to you all! :)

it wasnt all because of the kids the wife needed a new set of wiper blades and he didnt want to take out a 2nd mortgage lol only kidding.but on the serious side something is wrong you gave up something you love and she bought a Break My Wallet. You could allways buy what you want and take your time building it just the way you want it and wouldnt have to be in a hurry to do it. if you enjoy doing that like alout of us do . Best of luck raising your kids and with the money you got from the bike adleast buy a box of ear plugs so when your wife starts complaining on how much anything costs to fix her car you can tune her out lol
