    Hi,
I just got an 81 550 seca this afternoon. I'm looking to turn it into a cafe style bike so I have a feeling I'll be on this forum often.
The guy before the guy I bought the bike from made some strange modifications to the turn signals. They don't really work and just stay on instead of blink. You also can't really see them since they're really small and low profile. He took off the signals completely and put in these flat flush ones that don't stick out from the bike in the rear and the front ones barely stick out from around the fairing. I want to get some that are standard and similar to what was originally on the 81 seca. I started looking at the motorcycle parts websites and it seems a little confusing. I want to make sure I order all the correct parts I'll need and that they'll work for my bike (81 XJ550). If anybody can help me out with this matter it would be greatly appreciated.
    Have fun on the road.
    Thanks,
    Ben

Welcome to the world of XJ's my friend. Try e-bay, I see them on there quite often. I've seen them go pretty cheap too ($10 per set of 2). The xj's use a 27 watt bulb in the turn signals, so the ones installed on your bike right now don't draw enough wattage to make the blinker function, (that is if he left the stock blinker in it). There are several postings on this forum about this same subject, (people converting to LED signals). Good luck.

Thanks. I'm checking out ebay and they've got lots of stuff for the xj's. Going through the shop talk on this site has been awesome. I've been learning so much and I'm glade to know there's a nice community for these old bikes.
