my 82 seca 550 is almost done but I'm having trouble with the front brake.. I can't get the system to build pressure even when bleeding it through the caliper... the maste cylinder seems to build pressure within itself..the caliper piston itself is hard to push back with a c clamp... I need some suggestions on finding the culprit and where to go from there, wether I need new units or a rebuild would be sufficiant

With the piston hard to push back with a C clamp, the calliper requires an overhaul. The piston should return easily. If the master cylinder hasn't been rebuilt in the past 2 years, it also should be addressed. All brake seals should be replaced every 2 years. The brake lines should be replaced every 4 years. Check the date on them. Stainless lines are the way to go, for a slight price premium.

When bleeding these systems you will have better luck using a vacuum bleeder.

Keep in mind that when you are working on the brakes, cleanliness is supreme. Ensure that all signs of corrosion and dirt are removed.

I figured that was the case... any tips or links on rebuilding the caliper, like removing the piston?

Try to use the hydraulics of the master cylinder. Remove the calliper from its mount and pump the brake lever to push out the piston. If that doesn't work try air pressure. Be careful to keep body parts out ok the "line of fire." The piston can suddenly break free and shoot out. Failing those options you can remove the calliper and try to adapt a grease gun to the brake line port and pump grease to push out the cylinder. If you have to do this make sure that you thoroughly clean all the grease out of the calliper. It will destroy the new seals if any is left.

Where would I find the date on them?
