Front Caliper issues?

    It started to rain, and I decided to push the motorcycle under the carport. It feels like the front caliper is holding, then releasing, then holding, then releasing... on and off... It was a witch w/a capital "B" to push.... What's wrong?

    Sounds like a warped rotor. My caliper was dragging too, but it was pretty constant. Mine was fixed by cleaning the caliper piston, sleeve and master cylinder. Yours sounds like something is bent.

    Yeah, strange, though, cause it was fine until I removed the caliper and put it back on....

    I'll agree with RangerG on the warped rotor, or you could have some build up (corosion) on you caliper slide pin. I'd clean and check that first!! Have you rebuilt the calipers lately? If not.... maybe it's time!

    Check your caliper is centered correctly on the disc - though it does sound like a warped disc.

    Yeah, I vote for warped rotor too. Take the caliper off and put a nice straight edge up against it at several points. Should be pretty obvious. Is the rotor grooved? They show up on eBay pretty regularly.

    It could be something as simple as one pad isn't in place properly. Sometimes, it's the easier solution.

    This morning, I rode my bike to work. The dew was still on everything (it was like 5am). My front brake was engaged for the first 3 miles or so of my trip. I post this here in the hopes that this along w/my other issue w/the front caliper might help shed light on what is happening...

    I vote "Stuck Caliper"

    He didn't say anything about the usual 'Pulsing" that accompanies a Warp.

    Plus ... after warming-it-up good (3-miles) is loosened-up.

    You might have to take the caliper apart and clean the channels for the 2 o-rings inside... also, check the piston for any scuff marks or rust spots, and buff them down. You'll have to refill and bleed the brakes afterwards. It wouldn't hurt to clean the pin that holds the pads in place as well.

    If the o-rings look worn or damaged, a rebuild kit is in order, which will include the two o-rings and a dust cover for the bleeder screw.
