i am looking for a front fender for my 1982 maxim 400. are fenders a pretty generic part? mine is screwed in with 4 bolts (two on each side). it's a little more difficult to find 400 parts online, i've noticed. so if any 400 owners or anybody else for that matter knows, i am very curious to find out. Thanks!

I will measure the hole spacing on an "extra" Seca 550 front fender I have when I get home and post the results. Although the fenders from various models APPEAR quite similar, they're not, although SOME may be close enough to work. There is morre than just hole spacing, there's the curvature of the fender itself in relation to its distance from the center of the wheel, the width between the forks, etc. Keep watching eBay, a whole bunch of 400 stuff just cycled thru a month or so ago, it'll happen again.

good point. i didn't think about curvature and width. i'll take some measurements too. and if you don't mind, i'll compare them with what you get.

OK, better late than never. First off I need to say I have a metric tape measure which makes working on metric bikes much easier, but it's also in inches so I've converted as best as possible. The metric number will be a tad more accurate. 550 Seca front fender: 60mm (2 3/8") between holes (measured on center.) Width on bike, 130mm (5 1/8" wide) Width off bike 139mm (5 7/16") measured at mounting holes. (Springs in a bit when mounting.) Measured from ctr of holes to center of axle, approx 222mm (8 3/4") hard to be real accurate with this one with fender on bike. Center of holes to top of fender (eyeballed) approx 133mm (5 1/4") Bike runs a 19" front wheel with a 3.25-19 or 90/90-19 or 100/90-19 front tire. (Mine both have 100/90-19's but the book calls for the other sizes I gave.)
