front overhaul

    i had to start rebuilding my brakes because of significant judder when brake was applied. im doing the caliper rebuild + bar mounted master + braided steel line upgrade.

    my seca also has anti-dives, that i think i should clean out too. the question is how far is it possible to rebuild the lower part of the anti-dives without doing the forks?
    the forks seem to work fine, they are very clean, no rust or pitting and no visual leaks. if i have to drain oil out then i might just as well put new seals in them and since i have them apart and i need to put new oil in them i could just as well invest in some progressive springs....

    its endless as most of you propably know; since i had the tire off i might just as well put some new bearings and now that i have the bearings off i might just as well take the wheel for some nice powder coating....



    dont fix it if its not broken or what?

    what do you think?

    At that mileage I would definitely be replacing pretty much everything too.

    However, no need to disassemble the forks just to change the oil.

    As for the anti-dive units, they are brake-fluid operated but beyond that I'm no help. I can only tell you that a lot of people simply block them off as they don't seem to be all that effective.

    thanks bigfitz for your input, but the main issue now is that i want to clean my anti-dives.

    the actuator (top part) is off already and waiting to be taken apart. but if i take the fork oil regulating (lower) part of the anti-dives off wouldnt i drain some fork oil out?

    as i said my forks feel good and they dont leak. so i want to ask how to fully clean and unclog the anti-dives without draining the forks at all.

    take the forks off and remove anti-dive unit while inverted?

    after giving it some thought and reading the board a bit more i have decided to rebuild the forks too. i have no idea if they ever have been rebuilt, this way i will be sure.

    of course after choosing my course i have more alternatives and more questions... heres one:

    i thought of rebuilding the forks with progressive springs. they should be 10% stiffer than the original forks. also i intend to clean the anti-dives and get them to work.
    now what puzzles me are the air assists. im not sure if i really need them, and removing them would give me more fork to install clip-ons to. so can i just toss the valve and put some oil resistant sealing compound to block the little air passage, and clamp a clip-on on top of that, just under the top triple? or should i weld it shut or just use the clip-on? any ideas?

    my planned and somewhat ongoing front overhaul includes

    -machined rotors and new pads
    -rebuilt calipers
    -braided steel lines
    -gsxr750 master cylinder
    -rebuilt anti-dives
    -rebuilt forks with progressive springs
    -tapered steering bearings
    -wheel bearings
    -magura clip-ons
    -new lights
    -new gauge
    -powder coat on wheels, forks and triples
