Hello, just bought an 80 maxim 650, but I need to find a new front tire. Any suggestion of what tire and tire size I should be looking at? The current tire says 3.25h-19 but all I can find is some vintage looking tire which is fine if that is the best tire, but I'm not sure how that size converts to the tire sizes that are coming up in my searches.

You can convert to metric size. Look for 100/90-19 size tires. See the chart: cycleconvchart.jpg~320x480.jpeg

As for tyre type, Continental, Kenda, Avon, Dunlop, and several other manufacturers are making modern tires in classic sizes now. There is almost as good of a selection as when the bikes were new, but the actual tread compounds are better.

I like Bridgestone if you can find them.

What is better depends on what sort of riding you do. Commuting, sporting weekend rides, long distance touring, rain, dry, hot, gravel; what sort of rider are you?

Whatever you pick, read some reviews of the tire before buying. I like to use Amazon.com and read the reviews there.

And check the date codes on your rear tire. 6 years or older and you need to replace it too.

I'll be riding in all weather conditions, I live in Maine, and I'll be riding long distances and short so I guess I'll be looking for the best all around tire.

I use the Dunlop 404s. I used to live in MI and now live in NH and and I've been pleased with them.

My favorite is the Dunlop D404, as well. However, when I am in a $ pinch, I'll buy the Kenda Challengers.

^^^ Dunlop D404 is great all tire around unless you live or drive on dirt roads for a majority of your drives. The compound that makes it work so well on the pavement makes them get choppy on dirt road use but I'd highly recomed them as they have served me well rain or shine.

Has anybody ever used the Michelin Commander II? I was just looking on Revzilla and saw them. They're a little more expensive but supposed to last longer. Just curious.
