I finished one bike project - the XS has new gauges. But the front turn signals mysteriously don't work now.

So, I turn to the 550. Takes me forever to get her started, and I don't know why. I have spark and gas. Finally, she idles. I go get my new colortune and... it won't work on a 550. It will work on a 750, though.

So, I turn to the 750. It won't start. I have spark and there is gas in the carb bowls. It just won't. FFFFFUUUUUU....

Also, I found the 550 is leaking around some of the valve cover donuts. Guess it's time to order some more parts.

The 750 is starting to majorly annoy me. It should be running now, and it isn't.

What you have is a classic case of upset bikes. The XJ's are feeling left out because you are giving to much attention to the XS.

More than likely the batteries have run down from sitting, and do not have enough juice to fire off the bike. :(

I assume that the colortune problem is due to the smaller plug on the 550?

If the battery gets drained far enough. The starter draws so much juice to crank the motor that there is not enough left to get the coils to fire.

When you pull the plugs to check for spark. You get spark because you are not pushing against the compression of the motor.

Cold Starts depend on a Hot Spark, Powerful Cranking Amps and most importantly, ... a well functioning Enrichment Circuit with Fuel Bowl Metering Jets to the Siphon Tube "Wells" cleaned and full-flowing.

But, ... despite all those important factors being in great condition, these Bikes are TOUGH to start when the weather gets chilly.

One trick I use is running a length of Vacuum Hose from the Seat Rail down into the Airbox Inlet.
Using that Hose to direct a couple of shots of Starter Fluid into the Airbox definitely helps get a Dead Cold Engine to Start.
