Hi all. Any thread that adress this issue? Got a 1985 xj 700. Everything looks to be ok inside and outside the tank. Dont know how to measure if cables are working fine. Like I said everything seems to be connected and in place....

If you are talking about the low fuel warning sensor have you removed it to see if the small wire running from the top to the bottom has come loose? When I had a problem I found that the wire had come loose at the bottom. I soldered it back in place and have had no problems since. I think the wire coming loose is fairly common.

Have you checked the lightbulb to see if it has burned out?
