Hi all. I recently found a post here about a fella that replaced his carbs with a fuel-injected setup from a GSXR600. He touted a very moderate increase in fuel mileage and got rid of those pesky carbs. Man, would that be a cool project! Anyway, I'm wondering if there is any interest here in a collaboration to make an aftermarket kit to keep our 80's bikes alive? I love the styling of these bikes but carbs have always concerned me. With these bikes aging and parts becoming a little more difficult to find, I think this conversion would be a cool way to update these work-horses. I am highly interested in this conversion. I must say that I really enjoy my Maxim, but not looking forward to the day when those carbs need to be rebuilt and tweaked!

Hi dcbc, don't be daunted about cleaning and setting up the carbs, the guys on this site will walk you through it, no probs & once you have done it you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
I think part of the appeal of these bikes is the mechanical look of the engine, gearbox & the carbs.
Fuel injection is the thing of the future (if we can afford fuel) & I think that is great. I love inovation, but I think the XJ should be enjoyed for what it is (was). Wiz.

The hardest part about Cleaning and rebuilding the 4-Packs of Hitachi's or Mikuni's that give these XJ-Bikes the Power they need to let you have so much fun ... is:

Getting the damn thing off the bike and on the bench.

    It's all down-hill from there. Until ... :

You have to get them back ON the bike!
