fuel issues

    hey guys, need some help with some fuel issues im having. my 82 550 maxim runs beautifully with the tank on prime, but when i put it on regular she will stall out on my a couple minutes later. but when i do have it on prime and accidentaly leave it like that over night, i come out see to a nice puddle of fuel next to the bike. any ideas?

    Two problems.

    1. your petcock is not working as it should. Check for vacuum leaks in it's line. If that's good get a rebuild kit.

    2. your needles aren't seating properly or your float level is too high.

    Or maybe you don't have a vacuum line connected? (Someone did that once here on the forum)

    From the petcock to one of the cylinders there should be a hose.. that's what I mean.

    You need to check your oil level.
    You might have a crankcase full of gas/oil mix.

    +1 on Albrans post, do nothing until you are sure the oil is ok. Plus take a look at your air filter and see if the gas has left a puddle in the air box and see if the filter housing didn't get eaten by the gas.
    The first reason being you could damage the motor trying to start it, the second, if you have gas in the air box and it backfires through the carb, kiss your balls goodbye! 8O
    The second one is just to get your attention, I don't know if that would really happen..........but I guess it could! :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:
