My bike seems to be thirsty. I'm getting 150 km or 93 miles to a $15. Even at $1.40 a litre that seems excessive. Does my KLR have me spoiled or where do I start looking?

Don't do it by price, that varies all over the place.

I got 100 miles to 10 dollars if I'm doing highway, a bit (15% to 25%?) worse if I'm doing city.

That means, for me, in Texas, where gas is cheaper ($4/gal or cheaper for mid-grade, which is what I use) than most of the rest of the US, I get about 50mpg highway average (between 46 and 53), and 35 (if I'm having fun with it and doing lots of quick take offs and such) to 42 for the city.

It's true, this motorcycle is not the most gas efficient out there. My old scooter could get almost 100 mpg... I get like 50 now at best. Sucks.

But 50 is still ridiculously good for a car, and this is way more fun a vehicle than any car that would get 50, so... I think it's a fair trade.

(Even 35 is far more than I got during the few months I had an '04 Maxima on good days, so...)

I use to get around 40+ mpg before I put on my fairing and luggage (and all its contents).

Now I get some where around 35 or less. That being said, I SHOULD clean my carbs this year...

Regardless 30 MPG is WAY better than my 18 MPG SUV and alot more fun.

FYI: The wife's Prius only gets about 45 REAL MPG.

With those numbers my guess would be a Maxim X. Those seem to be the thirstiest bikes out there and I think it's down to the Genisis motor.
When I used to do longer trips on my X, I got really good at doing mental arithmatic converting miles to kilometres and gallons into litres.
Top range at cruising speed was around 160Km before going onto reserve and if I was thrashing it around town I'd get less than 100Km.
    Nature of the beast.

Hey all this take me to another question... What is the cruising speed of the bike...? mine is a XJ 700 N 1985...and by cruising speed I mean where the bike consume less gas and goes an average fast speed...
