If i hook up the original fuel sender to a straight "on\off" light, will it work? I mean, once it gets low enough will it turn on the light?

Nope. The fuel sender is a variable resistor. What you'll get is a light that dims just a little bit when the float is at one end of the wiper, and is all the way on when it's at the other end. Is there a problem with your stock low fuel warning, or are you running aftermarket gauges?

After market gauges. The sender crapped out ages ago anyway. been using the trip meter to tell when I need gas.

The odometer is more accurate anyway. WHat gauges are you using? There is a thread or two about how to modify the fuel sending unit output so it can be used with an aftermarket guage.

Just an old plain speedo gauge with idiot lights. Is there a way to modify the sender unit to straight on/off?
