Hi, I read lots of posts where riders have replaced/overhauled the fuel tap / petcock. Do these vacuum units have a bad history?

My own bike sometimes seems like it has a lack of fuel, loosing power and seems to run on not all the cylinders. After about 30 seconds I can hear the revs pick up as if fuel is coming through and away it goes. (Sounds more like fuel rather than one of the coils breaking down).

I removed the tap - no rust on the filter and fuel seems to come through.

I'd appreciate any advice on these vacuum petcocks.

    Thank you.

PS, After reading another post on identifying Secas/xjs, it seems my XJ 600 was marketed in the US as an "FJ". Hope everyone is cool with me posting on this site!!!???

    Re: Fuel tap problem?

    Sounds like a carb issue

not sure how much reading you have done but your prognosis sounds like your headed in the right direction... the petcock re-build takes about 30min for the novice... check the fuel screens in the tank as well as the screens in the carbs under the float needles if you suspect a fuel delivery issue. also it may be prudent to check your float levels using the clear tube method.
