    Original post:

OK here we go: I have recently started classes at UNC and I begin a 2 year program this fall. I am getting tired of taking the bus but I am not sure I want to invest in a bike. I am looking for someone who is not sure they want to sell their bike. What I propose is a 2 month bike lease/rental so we can figure out what each of us want to do.

I would like a bike between 750cc's and 1100cc's. I prefer a cruiser but would consider a sports bike. You must be LOCAL and have references because I am and I do. Oh and if we decide to go through with a sale the bike needs to be worth around 3k to 3.5k.

    First response

This has got to be the funniest craigslist posting ever. Do you expect us to believe you're actually smart enough to attend UNC? "I am looking for someone who is not sure they want to sell their bike." Priceless! Better stick to the bus...the short bus.

    Second response

OK here we go: I don't know how to ride a motorcycle and I'll probably wreck it so I would like to crash yours instead of mine. What I propose is a 2 month bike lease/rental so I can wreck and hurt myself then give the bike back to you ruined and then sue you.

I would like a bike between 750cc's and 1100cc's because this should definitely put me in the hospital. You must be LOCAL and have really good insurance. Oh and I would prefer someone with a net worth around 300k to 3.5M.

Bill, you had to make this up!!!

I don't let best friends ride my bikes let alone a stranger! Too much risk for losing a friend if something goes wrong.

Kiss your bike goodbye on the CL ad.

It's frightening to think someone would be ignorant enough to dream up and post this ad. Even scarier to think someone will likely be ignorant enough to work the deal!

Tell me about it, my brother pouted for an hour after I told him no way he was riding my bike.

I'm not clever enough to make this up - it's hilarious. I'd post the links but I expect it all to be flagged off quickly.

In the Orlando area, I've seen some like:

"would like to rent motorcycle for 4 days- - 500 to 1,200 CC's"

    Sounds too much like

"would like to steal your bike with keys, your permission, and a 4 day head start"

I'll be happy to rent out my '81 550 as long as I get a $3500 cash security deposit I can deduct the $50/day rental from.

There are also a bunch on ads now - I'll make payments you hold the title. Guess what - the title holder holds all the responsibility.

Guy rear ended my truck - he is paying on his truck to a buddy who is holding the title - PO thinks his wife canceled insurance. Driver can not insure it he doesn't own it. Guess who's out in that scenario - ME. Luckily he still had insurance on the vehicle - my insurance would have picked it up but the Trooper told the PO you are the owner....

So insurance and liability would be a big factor too.

    No way!
If you do that you belong in the "Lamebrain Hall of Fame"
    What if, ... ?

How about just one bad, ... "What if?"

What if you tuck a C-Note in your pocket and Mr. Rent-a-bike decides to see how well you tuned it up and gets-going a little too fast to avoid the lady pushing the stroller across the street?

Well, ... there's one for you?
    Need a few dozen more?

    A true story.

My first bike was a moped and I worked with a "Friend". One day he had a hospital appointment, which he was going to be late for as he'd sold HIS bike and had a bicycle.

Could he borrow my moped? I reluctantly agreed and another of my workmates said"What happens if you crash?". "Oh, I'll pay" he said.

Half an hour later the phone rang. He'd hit a car that pulled out of a junction in front of him. (He had right of way).

Net result, Broken moped, Summonsed to court and Fined because HIS insurance had run out - something he did't bother to tell me. The bike got fixed but I have NEVER loaned ANYTHING to ANYONE, EVER AGAIN.
