I have a 550 seca, that was runing like a champ, but on my way to class I was coming up a hill when I started losing power. It sounded like it was flooded. I pulled over and gas was pouring out of the air-box drain hose. I opened the airbox but the filter had no gas on it just the in-between part. I then opened the oil cap, and smelled inside it, it smelled like gas. Dont know where to start, maybe a float? I also tried starting it again, and I would have to hold the throttle all the way down just to get it to idle.

Stuck float. Try tapping the float bowls to see if you can free it up. You are going to want to check the crankcase for fuel in the oil too. Time to clean those carbs.

No, you already checked the crankcase for fuel in the oil...you need a oil flush to get it out...very bad juju.

I agree it is likely the floats....not too hard to get to or to clean. Tapping them might work, but is generally a solution for an out of position float after a cleaning. Sticky won't be fixed by a tap.

Take the carbs off, turn them over, and open the bowls. Look for a sticky float, clean all the floats...be careful not to bend the tang on the floats. While you have them off spend a couple of hours and a couple of cans of carb cleaner to clean the rest of the carbs too. You'll be glad you did.

I agree stuck float or a piece of trash stuck on the needle. For some reason there seems to be a run going on with floats sticking. Had 1 on my virago stick open Then a little while later the other stuck closed. I know its not trash in the fuel. The virago was hooked up to my external fuel supply

Yep, had the same problem, but not now. Got mine all torn apart and re-built, ultra sonic cleaned and looking like new.

    VERY NICE WORK.

Now back to the original problem:

If your oil smells like gas, QUIT RUNNING THE BIKE until you've changed it!

You've got a stuck float, almost for sure; plus you may have a petcock issue unless it only happens when the bike is running.

to add to what fitz said it after you shut it off if its a stuck float any gas in the line thats higher then where the line from the carb to the main line is going to drain thru that carb into the intake system
