    Hey all,
My locking gas cap doesn't actually lock. The mechanism works but the lock hooks land about 1/4 inch higher than the bottom of the tank filler neck. So in reality it just presses to the side. I can actually just flip it open. Needless to say this is a bit annoying, plus I keep sloshing gas out when the tanks full. I just replaced the rubber seal, but it didn't lock before either. Does anyone else have this problem? Any fixes? I was thinking of cutting some of the tank lip off. (Empty clean gas tank of course!) Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Its either the wrong cap for the tank, meaning a PO either changed the tank or the cap, or the cap itself (or the tank lip) is bent. Does it look like someone maybe tried to open the cap with a screwdriver for some reason? If the lip is bent, you might try maneuvering a small ball-peen hammer into the filler hole and pulling up hard on the handle to pound it back into position...

Hmm wrong cap, never thought of that! The cap and the lip are both in good shape. The ignition key fits it so maybe the PO rekeyed it? Well maybe I'll see if I can find a new cap.

    Thanks!

Have you tried to turn the key to retract the lock hooks, and while holding in this "state" press the cap down firmly and then remove the key?
