I was was about to remover the side cover to get at the clutch and see if those steel balls needed Tobe put back...i started draining the oil and it came out like a fire house and reeking of gas, it had the consistency of water and about 60 ounces came out :( :( . i am thinking this is why the clutch stopped working and want to know should i take the cover off as planed and see if the plates have rusted together? or put the new 20/50 (for wet clutches) i bought in and turn it over a few times and let it sit over night?

As for how the gas got there i have a few ideas..the day after i brought it home there was a big puddle of gas under the bike and i could see it leaking from the vac nipple on the left petcock, put the bike on the center stand and the leaking stopped...or so I thought, the day i pet the carbs on i took the tank off and thought it odd that it was stone empty, i just attributed it to the leak, but i geuss i better check the carbs to make sure the float pins are working even though no gas has leaked out of them at all since i went through them.

    thnx

Hey Oddball your seat o-rings are bad. Pull the carbs and pop off the float bowls. Remove the floats and take the seats out. I'll bet they pull right out with no resistance. If thats the case a few new o-rings will get you back on the road. Use Shell rotella 15/40 in your engine.

Didn't your mechanic tell you the fuel system was leaknig all over the place and it was a piece of junk??????
