Gas in oil question

    If I install a fuel shut off, would that completely stop gas from leaking into my oil? Or could it still leak from the carbs down into the oil somehow?

    No fuel into carbs = no fuel out of carbs.

    I'm concerned that we (as a group) are failing to recognize, or point out, that keeping fuel at the proper level in the bowls is the job of the floats - needles - and seats. If they are functioning properly no fuel gets into the oil.

    The vacuum petcock is a safety device to protect against overflowing if the float system fails. The manual shut off valve is another safety on top of the safety.

    By all means use the safeties. Don't let that be a substitute for servicing the carbs though, the problem will only get worse.

    I'm going to pull the carbs, just not yet, probably a few more weeks, I just want to make sure that if I shut the gas off I will be fine. Once Jan. hits it should be cold enough that I can't ride.
