Hey guys, I'm new around here, and new to bikes and I have a question. First let me say I have serached the archives, and I have learned so much. I'm glad I found this site. Now to the story... 2 weeks ago I bought an 85 mxim x 700 and it ran ok but had a sputter, and would die on idle sometimes. Took carbs off and cleaned them. Runs better but still has a sputter like the carbs need sync'd -which I intened to do.
Now last night I go out to fire it up to listen to it run a minute and gas starts pouring out the airbox side boots of one of the carbs... Bad diaphram ??? Thoughts?? Did I screw something while cleaning them?
    Thanks for any help,
    Gary

good chance its just a stuck float or piece of crap under needle valve, try tapping on carb with a screwdriver handle to see if that knocks float loose

Simple fix... That worked! Do you think that will happen again?
    Thanks again,
    Gary

maybe but probably not, lots of times when carbs are off bike or sit a long time the float sticks a little once loosened it usually doesnt cause a problem again, just keep a eye on it

Be sure to install an inline fuel filter to keep crud from making it's way into your carbs.

Got one in there this week. Getting close to to being right. Still need to sync my carbs. Maybe next week.
    Thanks,
    Gary
