Hi, I'm going to change my oil pan and cronkcase gaskets because I have a small leak down the kick stand. Can I just take the old gaskets off, clean the parts and just put the new gaskets on without putting on some kind of sealant ? I thought if you made the mating parts clean I could just replace the gaskets and torque them down. Thanks

Yes and yes you can. That's what i've always done.
You can buy instant gasket in a tube aswell, but i've never used it, though people are successful with it.
There's no gasket on actual crankcase halves and something like Yamabond should be used though.

Before you take off your oil pan, check to see if the bolts are tight. Also check the neutral switch and the oil level sensor. Check the shifter shaft seal, it may also be leaking.

Bought a new seal too. Are the hard to remove ? (oil pan, cover ?) Also, do you think goo gone will clean everything good enough ? Ya, I'm full of questions today. Thanks

Hey buddy! you have the same bike as me. Goo Gone should be ok, I have used WD-40 to soften the gaskets. If it is still stubborn after a few hours of soaking try a scraper with a razor blade in it. The kind used to remove paint from window glass.
