Ok, i got my gear fixed ...well i hope i do. So i put them back in and got the forks back in. Thought i was doing well, put the lower case back on and snugged all the bolts.
    WELL....
using my two hands, one to turn the shaft and one to spin the shifter, i got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but won't go to 4th or 5th unless I use a hammer for extra pressure. Any idea why.

Well, not sure of the cause, but the instructions/guides I have read recommend putting the tranny in 4th before you disassemble. I am guessing that there is an alignment issue that putting the tranny into 4th helps solve.

Did you do that and are seeing this problem? I have this on my list of things to do, so I am curious of what you ran across while doing it.

Did you pull the motor or flip the bike?

I put it in 4th but can't be 100% it stayed there with all the tinkering i did.
I had to completely remove the lower case to get my gears out, so put it back together the way it came out ... gonna take a closer look afterwards.

quick thought too. Now that I think about it, I seem to recall when i first got my bike i wasn't able to get it into 4th or 5th with it not running/moving. That might have something to do with it? maybe just the load required is too much if the bike isn't moving at a decent speed already?

I took the case apart and think i put the 2nd fork on upside down, not allowing it to pass the gear, will let you know.

I know without my bike running I can't get into 4th or 5th unless I'm rolling the bike. Just sitting static all I can get is 1, 2 , and 3.

Don't take my word for it, but that's just my $.02.

Yep, that's the test and it's true for all kind of transmissions. If it doesn't want to change gear try to move either the engine or the wheel shaft to let the gears and gear change mechanism to move a bit. Usually this move is enough to let the transmission to pop into the selected gear. Definitely, if you need to use a hammer that's not good.

By the way, if this bit of movement lets your transmission to change gears without any problem it's fine. If you can't change gear without any movement it's not a problem it's the normal behavior of a transmission.

well i put the gears back in again, with the 2nd fork the 'right' way and everything seemed to work fine. The real test will be once i get riding i guess
