If the battery keeps dying there are only 3 possibilities. Either 1. the battery won't hold a charge, which is likely if it's over 2 years old), 2. the alternator isn't charging, which is likely on a 28 year old bike that probably has worn out brushes, bad regulator or corroded connector pins, or 3. there is short or too great a load on the battery which is a possibility if someone has cut into the wiring harness or replaced any of the bulbs or headlight with larger ones.
If you connect a DVM do you get up to 14.5 volts charging the battery when the engine is over 2,000 RPM's? If so the battery is bad, if not the alternator or regulator needs service.
