Hello I need a new head for my 82' maxim 650, because of 3 broken intake studs .... that were eventually made worse when I tried to get them out myself. I was wondering, my engine is YICS and if it matters if I take a head off a non YICS engine, will this work? I understood the YICS is just the head with the vac equalizer chamber and whatnot and doesn't matter to me if it has it or not. I found one on ebay off a 81' xj 650 and thinking about picking it up, but need to be sure as it will fit. Thanks for the info etc.

It might not. The YICS port is on the block and lines up with the ports on the head. It would work, you just might not be able to physically fit it.

A long time ago I put a head from a fj600 on a seca 550. Reason was the FJ head had larger valves with no YICS. It did work and it worked really well. I was able to hang with the 600 hurricanes when they first came out

It may possibly work but I don't think so. The YICS ports are at the back of the head and the cylinder block so the non YICS head will leave them open. The headgasket would also be over sized if YICS and undersized if not and may not seal. So since the outline of both the head and the cylinder block don't match I wouldn't try it.
