When our dear friend Bill Schmidt died, I made some special memorial side covers. They were well received by this group and I am very grateful for the encouragement and hearty response.

I am getting ready to make some custom covers for my own xj 750 and I am open to ideas if some of you would like to order a set. They will be made similarly to the memorial covers in that they will be made out of 6061 aluminum (an aircraft quality aluminum). Then I will emboss/engrave a logo on them. The Yamaha logo will be embossed (raised) and the "xjbikes" will be engraved.

Some of you expressed interest in the past at having such covers made. When I get the art work done I will post it up here and then I will start taking orders. But if some of you creative types have some ideas then now is the time to let me know. Once the design is finalized it will cost extra to deviate from it.

Personally, I think it would be cool to sport side covers that identify us as members of this forum. It would elevate us from a "forum" to a loosely formed "club". Just my two cents.

As with the memorial covers, I will make them available at a price that just covers my cost. That cost will be determined by the response but it will probably be in the neighborhood of $60-$75 per set. Which is pretty reasonable considering that a set of factory side covers in decent condition often go for that much and they are of marginal quality NIB.

If you already have art work that you would like to recommend, you can email it to me at joseph.miranda@mir-co.com. You can send it in pdf, dxf, stl, stm, or just about any electronic format.

If those of you that I have done custom machining for would chime in at this point it would help to lend credibility this post.

Best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year.

I'm guessing you are just making seca covers since that is what you have...

Regardless, I'd like to see the final design.

Maybe two embossed chunks of aluminum could be cut to fit OVER my Maxim insert triangles. Then I could 3M tape attach them or something along that train of thought. (Or attach the embossed chunks else where on just about any bike - especially the xjbikes logo).

I think it would be neat to see a very classy paint job for emblems. Rather than having emblems, paint the emblem on the cover. Just an idea.
