After picking up my Concours a few weeks back the wife has been after me to sell my Seca. After 17 years in my care I am not sure that I want to part with her (the bike) but I have 21 years invested in the wife and am not ready to part with her either :).

Anyway, it's an 82 Seca 750 pictures of it can be seen on my gallery. To this day she still looks exactly like she does in those pictures. Not quiet "Concourse shape" but very close. She runs absolutely great and has only 16,740 miles on her.

What are your thoughts on what she might bring? Fortunately I am in no hurry whatsoever to sell her so I have that going for me.

You'll need the Seca for when the Concourse is down (you know - for tires and oil)

Tough call...could go either way :p

Perhaps a few bogus breakdowns on the Kawasaki with her having to come and pick you up each time might buy you some time?

I'm not sure of the laws over there, but over here that's called "human trafficking"....

You ARE talking about the wife for $5k right? :? lol

Adrian has a great idea going there with the "unreliable new bike" plan, after all you'd need something to use if it packed up completely one day wouldn't you

Wives are more easily replaced then a vintage Yamaha!!
That's why my wife won't ask me to get rid of mine when ever I start looking at another bike.

Believe me guys if I had plenty of spare time to ride I would keep her but let's face it I have had her for 17 years and have put less than 13,000 miles on her. With the addition of the Kaw into the stable my thoughts are the Seca will become a shelf queen  . The bike is a fantastic example and deserves to be ridden.

You see 80's Japanese bikes going for $1000-$1500 all day long but they are not perfect and might need a little TLC. My Seca has been gone thru front to back and needs nothing so I think I'll put her on Craigslist for $2000 firm and see what happens.

Hopefully she'll take a loooooong time to sell

    Rob

In Dec '12, I paid $1,400 for an 83 turbo with 5,100 miles and an 82 Turbo with 20k miles as a parts bike. I put $2k into refreshing the 83 and it's an awesome ride! Given the shape your bike is in, maybe you should consider asking a little more for her.

You can tell that not many forum members got good tax refunds this year.

If they had, you wouldn't get the s**t about selling it, you'd be getting PMs with offers!

I don't have any money either, but $2000 is a good number to number to start, even a little higher if you expect hagglers.

    No no no no no.

I have four (yes four) EX wives. (Don't ask, not my idea, too much to type.)

I've had my Norton longer than all of them; and guess what? I still have it.

Wives may come and go. (The going is good, BTW.)

Motorcycles are a much better investment. Keep the Seca; I could no way imagine selling a bike I'd had that long.

    A wife? Well...

    Which one's got seniority?

My wife just told me a women has no right to ask you to give away something you have had and loved for so many years . She heard about my first seca that got stolen that i bought new in 81 and has spent the last 2 years trying to find me another good one . Now she has gone on 4 bike and parts bike runs . One was clear across the state .
I now have 2 complete secas xj750 rh 1981 black , and 1 xj750 rj 1982 in red and she is thrilled to see the joy in my eye every time i open one of the garage doors and look inside . she even hinted she might like to learn to ride so we can do even more together (hunt , Fish , Ride horses , atv's ) guess maybe i am truly blessed to be married to my best friend .But i know i am truly blessed to have a seca to tinker with as i ride the other one i say keep it and take the old girl out for a spin once in a while or teach the wife to ride .Once the seca is gone she is gone !

I love teamwork. I have parts scattered across literally dozens of member bikes, on four Continents, no less. And bits in my garage that came from quite diverse sources.

    Good going.

    ***oops, forgot one. FIVE Continents.***
