I JUST SAVED A BUNCH OF....

    haha, anyway

i just put a charged battery into my bike that i redid the fuel lines on. When i turned on the ignition the starter immediately engaged without me touching anything.

My thinking is this. Last time i messed with the bike i was poking around the starter button hole (i have no starter button) with a screw driver. I think i may have got the starter button stuck.

is there any other reason as to why the starter would just start turning without me touching anything?

I'd say the jammed-in screwdriver messed-up something and the Switch Contacts are closed.

But, there IS the possibility that the Solenoid is stuck; too.

Yes, exactly the order that Rick said... Screwdrivers are meant to be hammered on as chisels, not be used as probes! :)

other than rip apart the cluster what are my options with this? how would i make a new button instead of buying a factory one?

I believe the button just connects the two wires. WHen they touch they make contact, and the starter motor fires, that is why the screwdriver worked, it was making the two sides of the cirsuit contact. You could easily make a homemade one if you can not find OEM pars. I jsut put a new boat starter push button in dad's old lawn tractor, since he kept losing the keys to it.

ok, got the start button issue taken care of.

i took it around the block 2 times and found out that in first gear at low rpms it stutters alot.... would this be from dirty carbs?

also, when i got off the bike was smoking from the exhaust, i dont know if it was because of crud buildup or what but i know the left side megaphone got mega hot since my leg touched it and burned

could the be because the bike is running lean? (i.e. bogging down on the start and getting super hot)

The simplest and easiest way to check is to pull the Spark Plugs and examine them.

The Plugs will tell the story!
If they are too dark ... you're too Rich or are using oil.

    Yank the Plugs.
    Line 'em up -- 1,, 2, 3, 4
Take a close-up picture of the business ends and Post it so we can see.

    That's them.
Without a ColorTune Plug or a Gas Analyzer you have to judge how the Mixtures are by monitoring the Plugs.

When you close-in on finding the Optimum Mixture; you find that you don't have to move the Screw very far to do the fine-tuning.
Once you get the Idle and supplementary Richness close to heaven ... a movement of only the with of a Nickel or a Dime will change the Air~Fuel Ratio from Rich to Lean.

    It's that sensitive!
To get the best results ... going somewhere - where you can do some full throttle runs with engine kills to Plug Chop will show you where you stand and allow you to make INDIVIDUAL adjustments to the Carb(s) that need a tweak either richer or leaner deoending on what the Plug reads.
