Love the XJs. Two 82's in the garage. One red, driven daily. Black one is ALMOST ready. Just rebuilt the starter, put in a fuse block, new brushes, (broke one when screw stripped trying to get the off the stator cover!) NOW just doing fork seals! It's amazing how much easier things go with the right tools! (Read: 19mm HEX SOCKET!!) IF you don't know this yet, make sure you have one, or the equivalent, at the start of the job! lol
Spark plug sock trick didnt work for me. CHEAP socket I have is round on the inside. 19mm hex was 8 bucks at napa.

    Welcome from Ontario!

The right tools do make a world of difference, especially with these old beasts! Update your signature when you get a chance and tell us about the models you have (82 XJ750K x 2?) ;)

welcome from PA. The boards are great with helping with just about anything you need, browse around and find some bikes you like, and let people know, and make yourself at home.
