i am wanting to put a windshield on my 86 xj700 and the bars are 7/8. i have found a shield for 1 inch bars. my question is can i do something to make this fit? this will be my 1st shield and don't know how difficult a conversion would be. any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. i don't want to waste my money on something that simply won't work.

Use a piece of hose in the mounting clamps to take up the extra space. Automotive heater hose works well. It will also keep the clamps from dammaging the chrome.

Some mounting systems come with inserts made of plastic to use inside the 1" clamps so you canuse them on 7/8" bars. Just find some thinker plastic (cut to fit) and wrap it around the bars then put the clamps around it.
The heater hose might be a little too thick for the clamps to fit around it. You may want to try a piece of old inner tube inside the clamp. That should be closer to the right thickness. Just sayin'.
