So my goal this weekend is to change the handlebars?

My only question is, I also want to change the blinker and horn controls since, my blinker button is broken/sticks and I have to fidget with it to stop blinking. And of course I want to change the starter to match. I was just wondering if these options were universal, or if I needed a certain type?

Those parts, in order to remain "plug-n-play" have to be matching Yamaha components.

The switch 'pods' are used across model lines, to some extent. For instance, the switch pods on your bike are the same ones that are used on the 550s.

You CAN replace them "universal" or custom aftermarket parts, but that will require some re-wiring and re-engineering. As they are now, each side's unit has a lead wire that ends in a plug in the headlight shell; they just plug in. If you use aftermarket parts you would need to add a plug to the unit's wiring, or do a whole lot of cut-and-splicing.

You do understand about the "timer" feature of the automatic turn signal cancelling system, and how that button is supposed to work, right? You push the button to the right or left to activate the signals, and straight IN to manually shut them off. Once you turn the signals on, they're NOT supposed to stop blinking unless you push the button straight in, or they automatically shut off.

Once activated, the turn signals will flash for: 10 seconds or until the motorcycle has traveled 150 meters (490 feet) whichever is greater. If the motorcycle is stopped, the signals won't automatically cancel and shut off until the bike begins to move and then meets one of those parameters.

You sure your "problem" isn't because you don't understand how it's supposed to work, or have a problem with the automatic cancelling system?

100% sure its the control and not me, because lots of times I can't push it straight in because its stuck in the left or right position. Then if I manually move I so its center and push in, they don't turn off. So I have to push it all the way to the other direction, wiggle and push in to shut off.

You could try simply taking it apart (carefully, small parts alert) and cleaning/lubing it. The switch pods come apart if you're careful; they're held together with screws inside.
