I have '82 xj750j. The handlebars I find comfortable but a bit strange looking. I would prefer the look of the more traditional bar. I have not riden a different maxim since I was 15 so I don't know if there's something special about my adjustable handlebars, or if the regular style are just as comfortable. I'm of average height and build. I'm not mechanic so my question is; what direction would one take to begin the conversion to the regular style bars.

    Hi
I have an 81 xj650 and am looking for some straight bars. I have flipped through the forums and found a lot of good stuff. I have 2 questions

1st would any of these bars fit, most likely the Daytona
    http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Chaparr ... FB903DA5A4

2nd I understand that I will have a problem with the angle of the mirrors and switches. What is the easiest fix?

    Thanks

I recently purchased the Daytonas. First let me say that I like them. With that said, I did run into a couple of problems with them.
    1. I ended up having to find some extra length in my accessories wires to facilitate useing them on my bike.
    2. The black coating is extremely easy to scratch.
    3. I ended up having to mount them a little more foward on the bike than I would have liked to get everything to fit.
    4. I have not been able to find a way to mount my windsheild back on yet.
    5. The reach is a little wider that I would have liked.
All this said, I do really like them but think the crome/silver ones are a better purchase after seeing how easy they scrath. My plastic cover was capable of scratching them. Be prepared to adjust things a little.

Try the European bend ones. I have a set of those as I liked the Daytonas as well but got the same warning about the finish from the dealer. The European ones are almost the same as the Daytonas only in chrome. The cables are a snug but not tight enough to worry about them getting messed up at full lock.

    Hello all,

I'm new owner of a 1983 Yamaha xj650. When I say new I mean it. This bike has only 7500 miles, rust free and is all original. Runs like new...looks like new...It is showroom 1983...I'm pumped.

Anyways...I ordered some Daytona bars because the stock bars drive me a little nuts...A few of you here mentioned that cables and positioning can be a challenge.

Do I need to anticipate any additional gear or are these bars generally a straight swap?

I'd appreciate any info you have...I'll post the before and after pictures.

    Thanks

+1 on the "European" bend bars. Just installed some on my 85 Maxim. Lowers them just enough to still clear the tank. Look cool too.

I just put a set of dirt bike bars ( unknown brand) on my baby max....
Only issue so far is throttle cable at full lock, will need to try more re-routing...
When I first mounted them I had them pretty much up straight, but found it a bit uncomfortable, but the cable routing worked after a bit of playing.
Rotated them towards me a bit, much better, but having a binding when turning right , left not so much... will hopefully get that sorted on the weekend
