Been thinking about wrapping my pipes, mostly for cosmetic reasons. I've read on some forums the benefit on these stock pipes is debatable. My questions is: if I wrap my pipes, will this be sufficient enough to seal the small holes towards the rear of the pipe? What about going all the way to the end of the muffler? There are a few small holes (and one big one) on these as well.

Whatever I do I am going to patch these holes some how. I hope this wont screw up my carbs too much?

I don't think header wrap will do too much to seal any holes. Its made to keep the heat down. Have you looked for some good used pipes?

Header wrap won't seal any holes. It's fabric. There are sealers you could use at the parts store and then cover it up with header wrap for looks.

yep, there are muffler patch kits that come with a tube of JBweld-ish epoxy and a chunk of reinforcing screen. plug the holes then wrap if you like.

The functional purpose of header wrap as I understand it is two fold. One, if you're running "custom" headers that you welded up in your garage the heat cycling (expansion and contraction) is rough on low quality welds. The insulation lets them cool down gradually when ya shut 'er down. Two, supposedly hot exhaust gasses will flow more freely through the silencer so keeping the gas hot in the headers allows more free flowing exhaust. Not enough to warrant jetting mind you, but a bit.

That's just my swagging at it. Hearsay and all that.
