So, my friend and I were heading out for a ride today we were coming up to a light. I pulled the brake kind of hard and I hear clunk clunk! I look out and my headlight is laying on the front fender hanging by the wires. Luckily we were near the shop we work at and pulled in. The retaining ring, which had 3 little brackets welded on had failed. We ended up drilling holes and pop riveting it back together. It's actually very strong and I don't think I'll need to replace it. Basically if you look at your retaining ring and the bottom has seperated it will need to be fixed or replaced or you could have an adventure like I did.

On the plus side we went over 100 miles today and hit up customer appreciation day at one of the local bike shops and had some free food. I took the 650 on the highway for the first time. Found out my speedo reads 10 mph low, which I find interesting as my other bike I had did the opposite. It was ok on the highway but the wind was blowing me all over. I think I'll have to buy a bigger bike for highway trips and keep this as a commuter. It was a fun day though, trying to ride as much as possible before the weather turns. Take 'er easy guys!

If you were getting "blown all over" you likely need to attend to your forks, shocks, swingarm bearings and probably tires.

I have 550 Secas which are 100lb. lighter than the 650 (I have one of those too) and they're rock stable on the highway, even when it's windy out. But they both have rebuilt suspensions and fresh tires.

Glad to hear it Keith ( the good ride part, not the headlight clunk part), I unfortunately had family stuff I was attending to, or I would have been out too. Sure was nice on Sat.
