Hello to all the members on here. I am Jon as you can see from my user name.. I am from CT usa but now live in England UK ..
I have just bought this lovely (and in need of work) 700cc Maxim..

This bike has come from the usa and has only ever had 2 previous owners.. ie the one in ameria and the one in the uk.. I am its third owner.. Its done just over 12000 miles from new.. I need your help and assistance and advice but before I ask for any of these I will troll around and try to answer my own questions by means of previous posts..

Thanks again.. I just wanted to introduce myself before I posted later.. enjoy my pic below of me on my bike..

    Welcom to the site, bro.
The first thing, obviously, is go over the things that you don't want going bad lest you get hurt or die.
Brakes, especially the rear. Anytime i get a new bike, the rear shoes get replaced no matter how good of condition they look to be in. The rear shoe can fall apart inside the hub and lock your tire up.
Check the chain and make sure it has good tension (about an inch of play). Go under the bike and the long part of the chain, as best between the two sprockets as you can get, see how much up and down play you have. An inch is ideal.
Make sure the tires are good. Check the tread, cracking, old age signs, and there should be a date somewhere on the tires.
Anyway... this site will definitely help your bike get every last kilometer out of it.
    Have fun:)

Hi everyone.. I think that comment about me being large maybe a bit over the top... sorry but I havnt met anyone yet and I am just tall.. with a bit of a gut..

next there is no chain on these bikes... its a shaft driven bike.. its a 700 maxim. I am very much into bikes and own another forum which specialises in chineese bike.. this bike is new to me and I have a idea of a project so to get specialist information was my reason for joining.

This bike is rather rare as they did alot of 650 and 750s... the 700 was quite unique.. anyway it does need front and rear brakes sorting out and a new exhause can as its split on the bottom.

sorry to sound ignorant but I know how we treat others on the forum I own.. and I wouldnt recommend comments like the large one without knowing the dude.

Markie.. I am near humberside.. to be exact I live in cottingham near beverly and hull area.. north east.....

Right well thanks for the welcomes... I think and my rant is over.. I will be putting up questions later as I said after I troll through some already asked!

and one last thing... we are in miles not kilometers...... arrrbgh

Right about the 700 being unique. Its the same with the 600 and 900. Sorry I said chain... should have said drive system or something as a lot were shaft drive.
Also... you'll see that this site is actually really laid back and you normally won't have issues with anybody being offensive. I actually posted a thread a while back about the well mannered nature of the people on this site... a rarity on the internet.
But you are right about being new here and the ethics involved in greeting people. But don't let the comment on your size be a deterrent or a first impression.
I have my own project going on as do MANY of the people here. I have never had a single question go unanswered and have gained a lot of knowledge here. This sit, in my opinion, is 100 times better than the clymer manuals. Better than most shops I have seen in my life as a matter of fact.
Well, either way, nice meeting you.

No offence meant Jon, just thought you were tall, you must have picked up some of the English sense of humor by now.
Do you want to post a link to your other forum?
Good luck with your bike, Wiz.

thanks guys.. I think my reply was over the top as well... its always hard on a forum to get your wording right with your emotions.. ie oh heck you know what I mean.

I wont post bits to the other forum only because I dont want to look like I am spam etc... but anyone in england who goes to bmf and camps would have seen our group several times over.. you cant miss us...

I want to extend the rear end.... like I seen on one photo. and put a large rake on the front end.

I also am looking at putting side plates on instead of pegs and putting the controls forwards so you can stretch your legs out. but first

I have to get it sorted and on the road... so I need a exhaust can or muffler... I need to sort out the sticky front brakes.. will just replace them with new pads and give the calipers a good clean...

I have to find new locks for the seat as one is seized and wont open.. I am trying to locate that chrome pannel for the left side of the bike... and well getting rid of the indicators and putting on new ones... want to get rid of the rear rest and put or find a proper back rest on ...my .list is quite long.. but going to do the necessarys to have it on the road first

anyone with a right can for sale?
