Hi All, i would like to say i am a relatively new rider, been riding for about 1 year. hit or miss on my 1981 XJ550 Maxim. i bought it for 1k, the guy before me painted it all black, and debadged it.
Ive been having trouble starting it and tuning it for the past year, no money and no experience working on bikes. but i found this site and worked threw alot of bugs, still having a hard time starting and it is not tuned, but it will start and run.
This past weekend i felt confident enough in the bike to take it out 20 miles away with my girlfriend on the back, and trust it would get me home. and it did. it was great :) its a great comfortable bike. altho my girlfriend wants a sissy bar, her first time up on a bike. I have alot of maintenance to catch up on and get the bike running right, but i am going to be taking care of this bike, unlike the last guy.

Welcome J, and glad to see you taking up maintenance.

Be sure to ensure the brakes are solid, as you don't want to not stop when you need to.

    Have fun.
