I am waiting for the new version of the xjcd before purchasing. However my cam chain arrived today.

Can someone please email me a copy or send me a link where I can find the information regarding the replacement of the cam chain in a 19 85 xj700 maxim.

In particular I need the cam timing specs.

    Thanks

Dunno if this hepls but the Cams have indexing Marks for this exact purpose. Suggest you Download a Manual from : Manualclub.com
you gotta register but it's free and harmless.

Does the replacement cam chain have a removable link?
If it's a one piece loop, then you need to split the case to get the crank out in order to remove the old chain and install the new one.

Here's a rough idea on timing....

Remove the side cover and rotate the rotor until the T marked on it aligns up with the pointer. This will put the #1 piston at TDC.

The cams each have a small dot stamped on them, on the flange opposite the side where the sprockets bolt on. These dots will be facing up and aligned with the arrows on the cam bearing block nearest the cam sprockets again. Once these dots are lined up with the arrows, you fiddle with the sprockets and chain to rotate the sprockets to line up the bolt holes with the cam.

Inset one bolt each cam, taking care not to drop them, and only finger tight for now. Rotate the crank and hand tighten the other sprocket bolts. Rotate crank again and double check alignment marks line up, if they do, torque the bolts to specs.

Next step is to adjust chain tensioner which depends on auto or manual tensioner.
