help needed on xj700n charging issue

    hi, need some help with my xj700n not charging, battery voltage is 12.15v with engine running is about the same when taken to about 4000rpm reading 12 39v (lights do get slightly brighter).
    can someone advise me the best way to check out the charging system

    14.2 - 14.8 Volts at about 3,000 rpms Again, you would measure these voltages at the battery terminals with your voltmeter.
    For all XJ-series models, the maximum available charging output VOLTAGE should be as follows (all values are approximate):

    * approximately 500-2000 rpms: 1.8 volts gradually increasing to 14.2 volts
    * 2000+ rpms: 14.2 volts up to about 14.8 volts, with a maximum of 14.8 volts (all models except XJ700-X and XJ750-X)
    * 3000+ rpms: 14.2 volts up to about 14.8 volts, with a maximum of 14.8 volts (all XJ700-X and XJ750-X)

    check your brushes in the alternator there is a wear mark on them

    make sure your grounds to frame and battery and positives are all clean to battery
