I suspect I might have issues with the ignition on the XJ-750. I measured the following:

    Between plug wires 2 & 3 I get 23.28k ohms
    Between plug wires 1 & 4 I get 27.76k ohms

The little resistors built into plug caps 2 & 3 measure 5.4k and 4.7k respectively.

Does this indicated bad coils, wires or resistors? If so where do I get new ones???

    Thank you!

I'm not sure about the 750, but for the 550 the secondary resistance is 11K ohms and the plug caps are 10k ohms.I had a plug cap crack so I replaced them all with 5k ohm caps with no issues. I would assume the 750's would be the same on the coil resistance. Are these stock coils? 23k plus seems a little high for the secondaries.

No it doesn't. IF you measured the coils wires with the resistors on then remove them and measure the coils again. You should get about 11.5 kohms with the plug resistor caps removed. 5ohms on the caps is right. Yours are fine.

Does each plug cap have a resistor? It looks like only 2 & 3 did. Confused or blind......

Yes, each plug cap will have it's own resistor. If you look in the end that goes over the plug you will see a brass plug, the resistors are under this plug. I think I paid five bucks each for the caps so I just replaced them all for peace of mind when one of them cracked.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, Robert ( or any other guru out there), what would happen if the resistors in the caps were bypassed?

Resistive load would drop and the spark would jump the gap sooner than it needed to. You would need to run a colder plug and you could hang up installing a stereo on the bike (not like its a good idea already).
FZ1, your resistance readings are acceptable. I would look else where for your problem.

    Thanks guys.

I have been chasing my tail (and so has the local bike shop) on why the bike is missing at ONLY full throttle between 4,500 and 6,500 rpms. Above and below that range, it runs smooth. Partial throttle and it runs smooth in all ranges.

Off to change the clips on the needles one more time...........

    Yes, Dynojet jet kit installed.
