So a few weeks ago I picked up an 81 xj650 that was running and driving 13k miles.

The seller rode it 4 hours south to me so I picked it up knowing that it was gonna need a brakes and tires.

So I ordered complete mc and brake caliper rebuild kits and ss brake lines.

I had some issues with the bikemaster brake pads I ordered and the mc would not build pressure after the rebuild and since i work 6 days a week I sent the bike off to a buddy who owns a bike shop.

He is gonna put the new tires and finish the front and rear brakes he also said I should check the valves so he is gonna finish it up for me.

Over all I really like this bike I have had tons of other bikes around 50ish but I may end up keeping this one

Looking at some of these American XJ's makes me think that the Japanese manufacturer's, whether it be Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda or Yamaha, are having a right laugh with the American market, cos that effort has just had me and my mrs in stitches.  Carry on.

    yeah OK?
that is why Honda just released the new CBR to look
like the bikes of the 80's
I have this same looking bike.. sure I changed it to suit my
    styles
but it is still a great looking bike
not too mention the way it drives..

    Yeah no kidding.

I prefer the "Seca" styling myself; but the Maxim struck a particular chord in the heart of the American rider that was the key to its unprecedented success here. In doing so, it spawned a whole new genre of bikes, the "Power Cruiser" blending 4-cylinder performance with a laid-back riding position.

Not my "cup o'tea" either, but they were attractive, well made and reliable and WAYY outsold the Euro-styled Secas.

    That's a very nice example.

I used to not like the look of the Seca
but they have grown on me
plus Fitz has some great looking bikes
my Maxim looked identical to this one when I brought it home
after getting it sound and a lot of hard work
    it now looks like this

They're not THAT different (Secas and Maxims...)

I guess it just depends on how you look at it, what your riding habits, etc., are. But the aesthetic is essentially the same.

I think my xj650 maxim is real pretty. I love to take care of her and keep her clean and shiny. I guess the style of the xj maxims just isn't understood by some Europeans. Sure, lots of moms mistakenly think their babies are pretty too.
