Hey guys. I'm new here. Just bought a 82 XJ650 Maxim. I live in Somerville MA. I've only done small maintenance stuff on bikes but have done more on cars. I will be looking to learn bike maintenance on this bike over the summer. Will probably be asking a lot of questions, but hopefully after I learn how this thing works, I will be contributing to this forum

Welcome from the Boston Mountains of NW Arkansas, and congrats on joining the XJ world.

This site is the best I've ever come across for sound, prompt, and helpful advice. We have some really competent mechanics, builders, and enthusiasts who contribute often. So enjoy and be sure and check out the site and it's threads with all the info.

You will hear more about this, but make your bike safe before you try and ride away. Many of the parts on these old classics are past their usable limits and need to be replaced-of course for most that's half the fun of owning an older bike.

Post pictures of your new to you XJ when you can. Love to see it!

Welcome from Columbus, Ohio- home of the Buckeyes. The 1982 Yamaha Maxim 650 is a beast. You have a gem of a bike. One thing, don't get discouraged. At one point I wanted to have mine hauled away when it was running rough and the front shocks went south...but the forums cured those issues. Glad to have you aboard.
