Somehow his post went to my profile.

If he doest respond, he asked about modifying his harness for a bobber project. I directed him to search "minimal harness xjbikes" in a Google search. I know that there is a thread about it here on the site.

He also inquired about installing points on his bike. I did not comment on my reply to him. However, I will comment here...

I don't like points. I have no clue if a set can be adopted to an XJ. Even if there was such a setup available, why do it? I'm guessing it's due to his TCI connector and related harness issues. I quite enjoy the maintenance free characteristics of a TCI/CDI controlled ignition system.

I'll let others field these further.....

Points are pointless on an XJ.
The amount of work needed to modify a set from something else, and then try to get the ignition advance correct, could take all summer.
Then you have to keep them set correctly and the points clean.
Points ignitions systems are cool, but not so cool that they belong on a machine that never used them.
TCI s rarely fail, but when they do they can be repaired, or replaced with used, or replaced with new (yes, there are several companies that make brand-new TCI units for the XJ series of motorcycles).
