Just purchased a 1982 xj550 kinda beat up but Its gonna be a bobber anyway, pics to come, I've been lurking for a couple of weeks found a bunch of good info, thanks everyone that contributed, very helpful. Safety circuit was causing no spark across all 4 plugs...

Start with the rear brake before you get hurt; this was a 550 that wasn't all that "beat up" to begin with: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html

And seriously: Start cutting it up before you get it running right and you'll be asking for a whole world of grief. Get the bike running right before you start modding, or it may never run. Plus even "bobbers" have to STOP safely. You've got some work to do first.

So true.. I can't begin to tell you how many projects I've seen abandoned because it wasn't driveable or rideable. I've had my share. I think it gives you a little more to look forward to.

Thank you guys.....I understand safety and the bike won't hit the road until it's ready. I know you safety governors can't help yourselves. Most of you guys are probably old enough to be my dad so I guess it makes sense. All jokes aside thanks again for the tips and advice! Now I disappear to lurk in the shadows.
