On my xj550, the High / Low beam switch is broken off. I do not have the missing piece. It was that way when I got the bike.

Has anyone had this problem and fixed it somehow?

I was trying not to order a whole switch assembly if there was an alternative.

For now I just ride with the light on low beam.

Buy a used cluster and get on with your life. Save the old cluster for parts.

    I guess your right.

I've been trying to keep the spending on the bike down.

I told my wife when I got it that I would try to do it on the cheap.

I said the same thing but she came around..... :)
Seriously, used parts on these bikes seem to be the way to go for some repairs such as the one you are needing. Clean out the corrosion while you're at it to avoid future problems, most old parts have this.

you can normally mend these things, but it is like micro surgery, unless you have a lot of patience get a replacement.

The Left Hand Control on MOST Japanese Bike is pretty darn near generic.

    Look-up the Part Number.
    Write it down.
Surf eBay for Yamaha Left Hand Control.

Find one that looks good and you can afford.
Write down the specifics of the Bike it comes off from.

Hit the Yamaha web site and look it up.
See if the Part Numbers Match.

If you find one with a matching part number ... you're in Bid-nezz!

    Thanks for all the help.

I was thinking I could have one of the machinests at work make a part that would be able to be added somehow, but took the control apart and see that this doesn't appear to be an option, so I will keep my eyes peeled for a nice used one that is not too much money.
