Got a sh Highway Hawk sissybar fairly cheap, bend the bar a bit (the chrome lived through that!), cut the front end of the brackets, drilled a bolt hole in each and resoldered and rewired my turn signals (worst part!) and it looks like this: (the wiring from the turn signals went fairly easy along the inside of the frame/fender and out under the seat)

Thanks. It´s fun to do when it´s almost bolt-on -ish.

As for the bike, I´m very happy with it - though I must say it is looking a bit better on the pics than in real life. It has some issues that make me wonder about the mileage being right (26500 on the meter when I bought it): A few minor oil leaks, a couple of small damages to cooling ribs, indicating the cylinder has been disassembled (by someone not quite up to the task), some bearings needing replacement etc. But it runs ok for now and I´m slowly working my way throug it...

Sounds like you have the same issues as most any early 80's bike owner would :)

Glad to hear she's running well though, such a beatiful machine should be on the road!

Yeah you´re probably right (my friend says I´m paranoid 8)

Taking things one at a time, but she´s definately also on the road ( rounded 2000 miles in 2 months).

I've got a small oil leak off the front of my engine. I'm told it's likely a small leak in the head-gasket or the bolts not being torqued properly.

Having driven it since late April with the little leak I've had no problems, it hasn't worsened and it does put off nearly enough oil to cause any problem aside from smelling a bit funny.

I asked around to a few guys I work with that own 80's bikes of various makes and models...the general concencious was that if it's not leaking a little bit, something is wrong :p

Right; the leak I can see right now is from removing a bracket for an aftermounted oilcooler (which was also leaking..). I figured I didn´t need it (not much risk of overheating here in Denmark, where temps very rarely go above 25-30C, and our cities/highways not being big enough to carry heavy traffic for very long). The bolts/threads are kinda small, though, and I´m afraid to overturn them (then I´m really in trouble..).

In the pic you can see the nuts/bolts, but not much oil. I hope all the goop behind it comes from this leak or maybe the leak in the oilcooler - then I know what´s causing it. I found out the oilcooler was leaking from staints on my boots, but haven´t had any since removing it (haven´t been on long/heavy rides since, though). If it doesn´t get worse, I don´t mind - but I would like to know how far I´m away from the proper torque (gotta get that torquewrench..)
