    Hey all,
Rebuilding carbs for an '81 XJ650 Maxim.

All four of my mixture screws miraculously came out without any trouble (I used a little kroil). Now, in Rick's carb cleaning How-To, he suggests oiling the screws. What should I oil them with? WD-40? Olive Oil? Should I put anti-seize on them?

Also, I have been able to remove ONE of my float bowl drain screws. Later (in the winter) I will go back and drill them out and replace them but right now I just want to get them on the bike. I am trying to do this job on the cheap right now and I'm wondering if I can get by without taking them out. Do I need to be able to move them in order to synch the carbs or can I just leave them in?

you can just leave them in but make sure you dry set all of your float heights. If your float height is good on the carb that you got the drain screw out of then the other three will probably be set right as well, Also, your bowl drain screws have nothing to do with sycning the carbs that i know of.

The Drain Screws will come out if you use a Hand-held Impact Tool.

Have an assistant hold the Float Bowl.
Apply Impact to the Drain Screw
    Out she comes.
    Clean the Threads
    Smear-on some Anti-seize.
(Repair the Head of the Drain Screw with a Dremel Cutting Wafer.
    Just make a Screwdriver Slot)
