From the looks of the Yamaha Showroom at the dealer near me.

    Americans want:

The STAR Brand Bikes - A BIG Harley-lookin'-like Cruisers.
Sport Bikes: Plastic wrapped bullets that can do a "Buck-eighty"
Scooters: By any other name, ... it's still a Scooter!
Watercraft: Two person Jet-ski's that will tow a skier.

seen the suzuki and Kawi retro bikes. I like the look and style for sure (especially the Zephyr) and it may be nice to own something with a warranty some day in my life but my opinion (and prolly a lot of yall XJheads) is that for that kind of money I'd buy half a dozen ACTUAL old bikes, make 3-4 good runners, pick my favorite, and step 3: profit.

Neat looking bike. At 100 HP, I'll bet that thing runs fast as hell.

yeah, import tariffs are low or non existent in canada. The only Honda Afrika Twin I've seen in the flesh came through via the north. Was hangin with an Aspencade and a buncha their GS buddies at the beemer rally. Back in the 50's my Dad got a Dream that way before you could get 'em in the states.

I wish Yamaha would add an Interactive Selection Option to their Web Site and see what kind of Bike the Public REALLY wants them to bring to market.

    I would like:

A 1000cc, Inline-4, 20 Valve, DOHC, Fuel Injected, 6-Speed, Air Cooled, Shaft Drive, Frnt/Rr Disc Brakes, Low-2-Seater, Speedo, Tach and Fuel Gauges, Rebuildable Shocks with a High Output Alternator and easy to Service Oil Filter , and an Operator Selectable Performance Levels.

    Polock,
$15,000 is a lot of money, at least in my world. That will buy an ST1300 or FJR1300 and darn near a BMW S1000rr!

I am not really sure what all the fuss is about re the new Honda CB1100. It might be a case of what you cant have or the grass is greener etc. I have a ZRX1200 , which, while not as vintage looking as the Honda, does an incredibly good job of replicating the original Eddie lawson replica, but with vastly improved power, handling and brakes. And for fairly small money. Living in Ireland part of the year, where I am a native, I have ridden all the unavailables like the Honda CB1300, XJR1300 FI, Suzuki GSX1400 etc......and they are all good bikes in various ways. I like the Kawa best as its the leanest meanest quickest of any of them, and looks terrific. The XJR1300 is like a giant Seca and the latest model has fuel injection these past few years. I must see if I can dig up a pic and post it here on site. Its a very handsome machine indeed. But there seems to be no market here for them in the USA.

I wonder if that seat (CB1100F) has some hidden cushioning?

    I agree with Militant_Buddhist
Why pay so many of today’s dollars for a rerun of yesterday when you can buy a very nice REAL yesterday for a lot less of today’s dollars?
I am not a fan of retro. Why go back with a fake?
Use today’s dollars to buy today’s stuff.

That said, today’s new bike offerings do not include the category.
And so Honda is fulfilling that category.
Still, for that much $ I would adjust MY category.

    Could be.
    Mines a Purple 900.

On days off I would go to Castle Island for lunch.
Then, ... I'd ride it over to Forrest Lawn Cemetery to see if there was any kind of Stone or Marker on the place where they put Reggie Lewis to rest.

I didn’t think anybody saw me. Don’t tell anybody where I was.
    It wasn’t me. I didn’t do it. I deny everything !

The bike I kept seeing was a Seca 750, and if i might say, fairly beat up looking, with bits missing everywhere, and paint unrecognizable, but still had that sweet whirring sound that Secas have. I would enjoy getting together with some seca/maxim owners around here during the upcoming fall season, my fave time of year for rides and picture taking, of which i do a lot. mostly land and seascapes up on Cape Ann.
